How do I join and other Membership Questions
- How do I join?
- Entrance into A/B pools is by recommendation only. A current player must recommend you for a spot in the league. Download an application form.

- Why do we need a league player to refer someone?
- It is important that we bring new players in at the proper level. Terms like "A Pool" or "recreational volleyball" don't mean the same thing to everyone. Admitting someone at the wrong level is a difficult situation for both the new player and the current players alike.

- I'm a new player, why am I put on "probation"?
- The volleyball committee strives to keep our players safe and the level of play consistent with each pool. If we determine that you are too high a level, too low or a danger to other players we will ask you to leave the league. Your league fees and NG membership fees will be full refunded.

Captain's Duties
- How are team captains chosen?
- The duty of being a captain rotates among all players. If you are in the league long enough, you will eventually be asked to be a captain. The committee tries to select captains who have been playing long enough to know the other players in the pool. The captains in each pool are usually all men or all women.

- What do captains do?
Before the season starts, the captains draft their teams and choose a team name. During the season, the captains manage their teams on the court, keep their teams informed and record attendance. There are some additional league wide duties divided up between the captains, such as keeping scoreboards, first aid kit, lost and found and the league party.

- What if I don't want to be a captain?

- The captains are responsible for selecting players to referee, down-ref and cover lines. The referee is responsible for getting the captains together to choose sides, select a game ball and starting the game on time. The Referee and the Captain are responsible for getting the games started on time. All players, should be familiar with refereeing, calling lines and being a down-ref. The captains should rotate these assignments each week.

- How does the draft work?
- Captains in A Pool are given a roster of all players in the combined A/B pools. The captains draw straws for draft order and pick in sequence. A draft coordinator helps by giving captains information on each individual’s play level.
- What other duties does the captain have?
- The captain is ultimately responsible for deciding the formation the team plays with each night. 4-2 is the recommended formation for defensive purposes and historically works best for coed teams. The league's traditional play is based around the 4-2 formation. Captains are free to choose alternate rotations as long as as the overwhelming majority of players on the team that night would want to do so and as long as playing time is equitably distributed.
ROTATING OUT: If a team chooses rotation-style substitution, then all players of the same gender must take their turn rotating out. No exemptions for setters.
GIRL TOUCH RULE: A woman must touch the ball if multiple touches occur on your side of the court.

Other League Polices
- What is the attendance policy?
- You are allowed at most three absences and still be eligible for next season. If you have more than that you may continue to play out the current season, but you will not be eligible to play in the next season.
- Do injuries count as an absence?
- No, but you must contact your captain and a committee member when you know you will not be able to play. A miss for a minor illness counts as an absence. For a serious injury that will keep you out for the rest of the season, we will place you on injured reserve and bring a player off the waiting list to replace you.
