General NGVB Policies
Safety and Control
When participating in teams, players are wholly responsible for their own actions as to not endanger others. Offending actions would include, but are not limited to: reckless playing styles, little control of balance, ball kicking, etc. Players should also be aware of basic offense and defensive schemes and rotations as well as the Next Generation league rules.
The league committee reserves the right to move a player that is deemed not at an A or B pool level, to a lower pool or recommend training within or outside of the league. This is to protect the player and other players in the league from injury and preserve competitive, but fun and safe play.
League Courtesy and Etiquette
Good sportsmanship! Players should remember that the NGVB is intended to be a social league; therefore, use of offensive language and/or actions is not acceptable. Keep in mind that while there is competitive league play, the focus is also on promoting camaraderie with fellow league members in a fun/social environment.
Playing Rules for A and B pool
- A and B pool - rally scoring to 25 points, cap at 27
- No intentional kicking (for safety reasons)
- Foot pancakes are ok
- Net serves are ok
- One toss only on serve
- Formations:
The captain is ultimately responsible for deciding the formation the team plays with each night. 4-2 is the recommended formation for defensive purposes and historically works best for coed teams. The league's traditional play is based around the 4 -2 formation. Captains are free to choose alternate rotations as long as as the overwhelming majority of players on the team that night would want to do so and as long as playing time is equitably distributed.
ROTATING OUT: If a team chooses rotation-style substitution, then all players of the same gender must take their turn rotating out. No exemptions for setters.
